The reason are :

• Film is one part of creative industry.

Because the growth of trend in last 3 year is 15%/year. In 2006 film industry in Indonesia was donate 33,5 % from GDB (Gross Domestic Bruto) and the amount is 6 times more big from oil and earth gas’s industry.

• Production of industry film is rise up

The number of film production in Indonesia still small if we compared with western film from the other country (such as Hollywood, Bollywood, China). In 2007 there is 53 film production in Indonesia.

• People in Indonesia still interested with Indonesian film

Data in 2006 shows there are :

12 million       : people who watches Indonesian film

40 title            : film Indonesia

Average people who watches Indonesian film = 300 hundred people.

 

23 million       : people who watches foreign film

188 title          : film foreign

Average people who watches foreign film = 122 hundred people.

 

History of film Industry in Indonesia …          

1900               : The first cinema in Indonesia.

1920               : The first film production in Indonesia (Loetong Kasaroeng)

1931               : The first film with voice/sound (Boenga Roos) , the distance only 4   years with America.

1936               : The first film with our own language, bahasa Indonesia (Terang Boelan).

1939               : Cool War (Perang Dingin) was happening in Europe (Hitler).

1940-1941     : The production film was grow up from 5  into 13 becomes 41     film title.

1942               : Japan was entering into Indonesian country and forbid the film    production. Except for Japan’s propaganda.

1945-1947     : There is no story film production in this year. Except for war  documentation film.

1950               : Dara & Doa film was produces. The first shooting of this year becomes a day of industry film in Indonesia. And Indonesia has use their own home’s industry.

After this …

• 1997   : Number production is balance relatively (between 20-70 title film/year).

• 1978   : - The price of oily world was high, the economical in Indonesia  also in high level                         (134  title film/year).

 - Production was high become 50-100 title film/year.

• 1992-1997     : Indonesian film was fall down from high level cinema’s.

 

Why Indonesian film was fall down …?

Because of :

• Many people make a illegal copied film into video tape, VCD. So people fell dislike/ lazy to watch film in cinema.
• Cinema 21 was more bigger in everywhere, and make other cinema was not in progress.
• Monopoly film import film and the wiper of quota foreign film.

 

Why Indonesian film can not fight with foreign film …?

• Because the number of people who watches becomes specific into high class level and educated person.
• We only make a film, without following the development of international making film.
• Culture of watches in cinema for Indonesian people has not yet formed.

 

All is beginning with …

 Kuldesak film which produces in 1996, but we need 2 years to promote this film to become success in 1998. And also film industry in Indonesia have start  go to higher up level.

• 1998   : Kuldesak film, then Daun Diatas Bantal.
• 2000   : Pertualangan Sherina (1,4 million people who watch’s),  Jelangkung (1 million                       people who watch’s).
• 2002   : AACD, Ada Apa Dengan Cinta (2,4 million people who watch’s)

 

And the rest is history...

• Film production always rise up in every year and also the people who watches also rise up.
• The people who watches film goes down and minimum people who watches film become 300 hundred people/film.
• Although scream movie, the average people who watches is 1 million hundred people.
• Nowadays comedy film is rise up. For example : Nagabonar (2 million people), Get Married (1,5 million people),  Quicky Express (600 hundred people only in 2 weeks).
